Bardejov Spa

The first mention of the oldest spa in Slovakia, that is, of the spa of Bardejov, dates back to 1247. The existence of mineral sources was also discussed thanks to their geographical position because they were situated next to a “king´s large pavement”, which linked the Mediterranean area with the Baltic area.

Later, in the 18th century, these spas already had buildings with bathtubs and became one of the most sought-after buildings throughout the year. The first visitors were the Polish nobility and then the Hungarian nobility. At the beginning of the 20th century, it already had some 1,600 well-furnished rooms and medical equipment. The bottles were filled with water from the Alžbeta´s fountain and the Medical´s fountain. This was the path of this spa until it became the healing baths as they are today.

Currently, the spa is distributed in a spa colonnade and in the spa house, which is connected to the Alžbeta´s spa house by glass corridors. The curative treatments are carried out in the spa house, also where are the health center and the laboratories.

In the Bardejov spa complex there are several facilities such as, for example, the cinema, restaurants, cafes, the church, the salt cave, or routes for hiking or other sports, as it is surrounded by the nature with abundant forests.

This place is highly sought and frequently visited for its power to treat diseases, specifically those related to the cardiovascular system, kidney disease, and diabetes, or cancer patients. But on the other hand, this imperial-style site located in eastern Slovakia is also highly sought after by people who come freely without a medical prescription to relax and regain their strength.
