Tokaj wine region is located in the Lower Zemplín in the northeastern corner of Slovakia. This region is also the smallest and most lucrative wine-growing region of Slovakia which is created by the southern slopes of the Zemplén hills planted with vines after two millennia. Tokaj wine region in Slovakia consists of seven villages of the Trebisov district:
Bara, Čerhov, Černochov, Malá Tŕňa, Slovenské Nové Mesto, Veľká Tŕňa, and Viničky. 

Tokaj area is famous for its production of natural sweet wines. Thanks to the medicinal properties of the Tokaj wines, these wines are perceived as the elixir of eternal youth. The origin of wine-growing has started during the Roman Empire, when the region was part of Pannonia. Thanks to Italian settlers in the 13th and 14th century, there was the significant development of viticulture in this region, because Italians brought here new growing experience.

A lot of Tokaj cellars come from the time of the Turkish wars in the 16th – 17th century which provide a constant temperature of around 12 °C and high humidity of around 95%.

The unique taste of Tokaj wine is created by long sunny autumn, land on which the vines grow and soil forming rocks of volcanic origin, which can accumulate heat very well.

Basis for the production of Tokaj wines are indigenous grape varieties, such as Furmint, LipovinaMuškát Žltý (Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains) and Zéta.

Tokaj wine region in Slovakia is also defined by the Slovak law as a closed wine region in the area of 907 hectares. Slovak Tokaj wine region was officially adopted by European commission in 2003.

The quality of Slovak wine brands is almost equal to the quality of wines coming from South regions. Beautiful nature, great location, and soft climate provide the development and expansion of the winery industry in this small european country.

World-famous Tokaj wine production has still a rich tradition of ethnology and viticulture in the Slovak part of the Tokaj region. Long history and excellent reputation of Slovak Tokaj wine area is presented by many gold and silver medals in various international competitions. Visitors who visit Tokaj region, with old wine cellars, will have the opportunity to taste the unique Tokaj wines matured in wooden barrels for several years.
