Hiking in Slovakia

During the summer months, many of us want to escape from the reality of working days and enjoy our free time. Some decide for a holiday by the sea, others prefer an active holiday in the mountains or a sightseeing tour, and others choose to combine the sea with getting to know the surroundings. We will explore the possibilities of hiking in Slovakia for those who want to spend their holiday here and see its beauty.

One of the most beautiful and well-known tourist destinations in the Slovak Republic is the High Tatras. You can stay in Stary Smokovec, Tatranska Lomnica or directly at Strbske pleso and from there you can go to the mountains. Beginners will love a walk with a beautiful view around the cottage Strbske pleso, easy access to Popradske pleso, take the cable car to Lomnicky peak (2634 m) or Skalnate Pleso (1751 m) and look into the local observatory. Advanced tourists can go hiking to Rysy (2503 m), Krivan (2495 m) or other peaks of this majestic mountain range. Every Slovak should have visit the High Tatras at least once in his life to know that also in his homeland is a lot to see.

Low Tatras are also very nice, even if they are lowered. You can go to the highest peak of this mountain Dumbier (2043 m), the peak of Great Chochule (1753 m), Chopok (2024 m) or many others. You can ski on most of these hills in winter, so you have places where to accomodate and eat also during the summer season.

Do not forget the mountains of the Little Fatra, Great Fatra, White Carpathians, Slovak Ore Mountains, Slovak Karst, Stiavnicke Hills, Sulovske Rocks, Maple Mountains, Orava Beskids, Eastern Carpathians, Tribec, Pieniny or Slovak Paradise. Each of them has its own charm and unforgettable atmosphere, which you can survive just there.

Whether you decide to wander in the footsteps of Janosik in Vratna Valley, taste real Slovak products in Liptov, climb the ladders in the Slovak Paradise, enjoy the sunrise on one of the Strazovske Hills, for example. Vaclav (956 m) or experience romance at Klak (1351 m). For sure, you will remember your holiday in Slovakia for many years and you will be glad to return once to your favorite places.
